Of all the sapphires in the world, the finest and rarest are in Kashmir. Discovered in the mountainous regions of northern India, Kashmir sapphires have a rich, velvety blue color. In fact, the blue in a Kashmir sapphire is so dense, that the sapphire actually "glows" blue. Unfortunately by the 1920's, the mines which had produced these glorious gemstones had all been depleted. Today the only source for Kashmir sapphires is found in finest antique jewelry.
