One of the great jewelry designers to emerge from post war Paris was Pierre Sterlé. Movie stars, writers, musicians, industrialists…the jet set as they were called, all flocked to Sterlé’s “salon” on the Avenue de L’Opera in Paris to await a Sterlé masterpiece. Sterlé captured the exuberance of the post war mood by creating spectacular and dramatic pieces of wearable art-especially his “animals in motion”. These pieces use large sweeping curves of undulating gold with sprinkles of small vibrant diamonds and dashes of colorful semi-precious gemstones.

Pictured here is a wonderful angelfish brooch of fine 18kt yellow gold, brilliant cut diamonds, a baguette diamond and a piece of Persian turquoise, circa 1960. Sterlé, Paris.

Not to be outdone, Tiffany and Company in New York also tapped into the postwar talent of Parisian jewelers including Jean Schlumberger.
