Movie stars, writers, musicians, industrialists…the jet set as they were called, all flocked to Sterlé’s “salon” on the Avenue de L’Opera in Paris to await a Sterlé masterpiece. Sterlé captured the exuberance of the post war mood by creating spectacular and dramatic pieces of wearable art-especially his “animals in motion”. These pieces use large sweeping curves of undulating gold with sprinkles of small vibrant diamonds and dashes of colorful semi-precious gemstones. Pictured here is a wonderful angelfish brooch of fine 18kt yellow gold, brilliant cut diamonds, a baguette diamond and a piece of Persian turquoise, circa 1960. Sterlé, Paris. Not to be outdone, Tiffany and Company in New York also tapped into the postwar talent of Parisian jewelers including Jean Schlumberger.
