Dear Friends,

We are proud to present to you our 30th catalogue of fine antique and estate jewelry. This exciting selection includes jewelry from many famous collections of royal provenance to estates here in New England. Of particular note is a wonderful selection of very high quality vintage rings, including Asscher cut diamonds.

Throughout the year, we put aside the finest and most interesting jewelry for this catalogue. In this way, a client from California has the same opportunity to purchase these rarities as does someone from here in New England.

To those of you who may be as yet unfamiliar with us, please allow us to introduce ourselves.

Nelson Rarities was founded by Andrew Nelson, who as a fine arts major at Harvard University, recognized the beauty and value of antique and estate jewelry. As business increased, he recruited fellow Harvard graduate Malcolm Logan and antique connoisseur David Johanson. Today Nelson Rarities is known worldwide as a purveyor of rare gems and fine jewelry.

We invite you to personally visit, write or phone (toll-free 1-800-882-3150). You may order with confidence from us as we guarantee your complete satisfaction.

We wish you a happy and healthy holiday season.

In ancient Greek mythology, one of the most important of the gods and goddesses was Helios, the sun God. Every morning Helios streaked across the heavens in his golden chariot to bring sunshine to Earth.

These magnificent earrings depict the Helios myth with the tops representing the sun as a flower, suspending the crescent shaped chariot of Helios with his entourage of cherubs and putti and further suspending numerous “sunrays” of finely spun braids of gold and terminating into amphora drops containing “liquid” sunshine.

Surprisingly, these earrings are recreations of a pair of earrings excavated in the early 1880’s in southern Italy and made during the 4th century BC. Dramatic discoveries by archeologists fascinated the world and “Etruscan- revival” swept society. The greatest goldsmith of this new mania was Castellani, who set up shop in Rome and then further set up shops in Paris and London in the late 1800’s making exquisite jewels honoring the great jewelry being unearthed in Pompeii, Herulaneum, Egypt, and Greece. Circa 1862,

Castellani
