Dear Friends,

We are proud to present to you our 29th catalogue of fine antique and estate jewelry. This exciting selection includes jewelry from many famous collections of royal provenance to estates here in New England. Of particular note is a wonderful selection of very high quality vintage rings, including Asscher cut diamonds.

Throughout the year, we put aside the finest and most interesting jewelry for this catalogue. In this way, a client from California has the same opportunity to purchase these rarities as does someone from here in New England.

To those of you who may be as yet unfamiliar with us, please allow us to introduce ourselves.

Nelson Rarities was founded by Andrew Nelson, who as a fine arts major at Harvard University, recognized the beauty and value of antique and estate jewelry. As business increased, he recruited fellow Harvard graduate Malcolm Logan and antique connoisseur David Johanson. Today Nelson Rarities is known worldwide as a purveyor of rare gems and fine jewelry.

We invite you to personally visit, write or phone (toll-free 1-800-882-3150). You may order with confidence from us as we guarantee your complete satisfaction.

We wish you a happy and healthy holiday season.

A wonderful bird is the pelican,
His bill will hold more than his belican,
He can take in his beak
Enough food for a week
But I'm damned if I see how the helican!
Dixon Lanier Merritt (1879 – 1972)

During the post war era and into the 1950’s, whimsy defined sophistication and style.  The great jewelry houses competed with each other to create flight of fancy jewels utilizing exquisite gemstones, the finest diamonds and extraordinary craftsmanship.  Animals with often human sympathies were perfect for this whimsy. Cartier continued its role as the ultimate jeweler of this new chic with examples such as this dancing pelican balancing a snail on its long beak.

Pavé diamond neck, cabochon-cut ruby belly, cabochon-cut sapphire eye, baguette diamond tail feathers, carved platinum web feet, and a carved gold beak with a carved gold and diamond snail.  Cartier
